The Sony camera being displayed here is being served from the Camstream Site in the UK. It is a Social site with chat facilities.  My Lagoon City Webcam has been viewed by over 119,000 viewers, in over 180 countries since May 10, 2006.  That's about 150 visitors see our lagoons every day.

The Toshiba IKWB camera is capable of showing colour images (1.4 mega pixels) both day and night. It is operational 24/7 and the night time pictures are full colour and amazing.

This Camera appears on the Weather Network. Image sizes of 320x240.and 640x480 are available. This PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera updates 1 new frame every 1-6 seconds, and Pans each minute through 10 different scenes.

This camera requires a late model computer with Java installed ( most new computers have this.)  It is slow to load, (20 to 30 seconds) but when it comes up, it will stream video at 3-5 frames per second. The images are availble 24/7 with spectacular colour even in the middle pf the night. The visitor may also control the camera from their computer. ( PTZ )  Pan, Tilt and Zoom. (available when automatic panning is not enabled.)

With webcams there are a lot of tradeoffs. The speed of the streaming is dependent on the size of the image, the Server used and available Bandwidth. Generally you get faster streaming with smaller pictures, but bigger images are delightful, especially with a night vision camera.

The goal however is to get the fastest frame rate and the largest image. The UK server I use comes the closest to this. I will keep trying to improve the system I use. One of the most important factors is the viewers' computer. It has to be up to date for all this stuff to work, and all computers are configured differently. Have fun, I am.
