The Finn Class. This was the boat used in the 1952 Olympics. I won five of the seven final races, but lost by 1/4 of a point to represent Canada in Helsinki that year.
Astronomy, a passion. Started studying the Stars and Galaxies in about 1980. Got hooked on Astrophotography and have taken thousands of pictures over the next 16 years. Went from film cameras to CCD cameras used on guided telescopes, usually in the 12 in aperture range. Exposures range from a few minutes to as much as 5 hours. Pictures that are 'Keepers' are only about 1 in 50. A tough hobby to be sure.
Model Boats and Model Airplanes. My Brother and I have been building and playing with these for years. Boats are more forgiving than airplanes... before we achieved our first flights, (keeping them in the air) we totalled about 7 airplanes each! the airplane motors ranged from 1/2 A to 40cc. Another tough hobby, but that of course is what makes it challenging and fun. When the airplanes became pleasantly frustrating we relaxed with the boats.
My first, and hobby of longest interest is HAM radio. Played with radio as early as 9 years of age, building Crystal sets, then small transmitters. I got my Advanced ticket when I was 16 and worked with both home brew and commercial radios. In the course of many years, I have worked over 300 countries, included an expedition on the South Pole. Great fun.
